Waiting for the Beach

I've been desperately longing for the beach after this week's unbearably cold weather. Here's a beach-inspired look for those of us who are landlocked. We've got a pretty rad sweatshirt in an ocean-y hue, cool-girl jeans, some boho boots, bright lingerie to keep it sexy, the coolest sunglasses known to man, a hat that says it all, and a bag that makes it look like you've been everywhere.

Nicaragua Part 5

I've saved the best for last. This was, by far, the highlight of the trip. We went on a horseback ride that took us through the forest, through the valleys, to the beach (that Survivor Nicaragua was filmed on), where we got to ride uninhibited for like an hour. Galloping up and down the beach. And get this, my horse was white and named Pegasus. Um, what? #dreamcometrue

Our guide, Blue, had us dress up like the cowboys and cowgirls we are at heart :)

Rancho Chilamate itself was a dream come true.

Perfect blend of old world indoor outdoor space.

Pool with a view of the horse pasture...

Phenomenal doors...

El vaquero come un platano pequeno.

Mi caballo, que muy guapo, se llamo Pegasus. <3 td="">

Headed to the beach!

Joe & I riding along the beach. Picture taken on my camera by the guide, Blue. Love her.

View of San Juan del Sur, and the Jesus statue, from Pelican Eyes Resort on our last day.

A sunset reflection in our pool.

Nicaragua Part 4 - San Juan del Sur

After 5 glorious, sweltering days in Granada, we took a taxi south to the beach town San Juan del Sur, where we rented a pretty little house way up in the hills. It required a manual 4 wheel drive truck to get there.

San Juan del Sur students practicing for a parade.

Casa Suerte. Lucky No. 7.

Cozy, modern, beautiful, rustic, open air.

The bathrooms were fun. Got to look right out into the rain forest while showering.
Mosquito nets. Kind of irritating, but good for the conscience.

Our pool on the hillside. The water was a little cool from the rain and we didn't use it much.

Steps to our house.

These bastards built webs in the walkways all the time...

A sunset seen from our balcony.

The nearest beach. Deserted. With the perfect sand.

Same beach, opposite direction. Costa Rica is visible on the horizon.

Selfie. Fun fact - made that suit.

Another deserted beach a little further north.

Fun pattern in the sand made by the tide pulling sand against the rocks.

The surf beach to the south of the first beach. There was a little cafe and a bunch of mediocre surfers.

Nicaragua Part 3

Here are photos from our side trip to Mombacho, one of the volcanoes in Nicaragua.

A howler monkey.

There was a small butterfly preserve at the base of the volcano.

A spider web...

This poor baby broke my heart. Dogs were everywhere in Nicaragua, and most were not pets. It was awful seeing so many dogs like this.

The view from halfway up at the coffee plantation, Cafe las Flores.

Cafe las Flores. Really delicious coffee.

The bus ride up the volcano was a little steep...

At one of the lookouts.

Howler monkey. Balls.

Looking out over Granada and Lake Nicaragua.

Go Cards!

A little hummingbird sunning himself for us.

He just kept coming back. I was seated on the ground about 3 feet away.

Nicaragua Part 2

More photos from Granada! We stumbled upon the first hospital in the city. And we took a side trip to Laguna de Apoyo, a thermal volcano crater lake.

the walls were constructed with barbed wire...

Laguna de Apoyo. It was so clean and so warm.

Hostel Paradiso. Glorious.

Looking down at the lake from the upper portion of the hostel.

Hotel Spa Granada

the hotel's ducks...

Frank Sinatra. Cutest little kitty. Had blue eyes.

Geckos in the lights by our hotel room!
